Team India’s catching is going from bad to worse, with each passing match. In the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup, how is it even possible, that in a space of 10 deliveries, Harmanpreet Kaur‘s team managed to drop four sitters. Yes. That is exactly what happened in the encounter against Bangladesh on Wednesday, at Old Trafford, where shocking scenes unfolded, that even left support staff cover their faces in embarrassment.
India drop 4 chances
It all started with Yastika Bhatia‘s drop of Juairiya Ferdous in the 3rd over. The batter tried to sweep Charani, and a top edge meant the fielder had to run to short square leg. Despite putting in a frantic dive, the catch was dropped. And then came the dramatic 5th over of the inning; again by Charani, where three catches were missed.
Ferdous pulled towards mid wicket, and Radha Yadav, the best fielder in the team, dropped her third straight catch in the tournament. Then came the turn of Sobhana Mostary, who played one to point, and Nandni Sharma couldn’t pouch it. Just the very next delivery, the latter was removed from that position, and stationed at short third man. Ferdous was again handed a lifeline, as another one slipped out of Nandni’s hands.
Most catches dropped by teams in Women’s T20 World Cup 2026
As per stats by Cricviz, published in the Hindustan Times, prior this IND vs BAN match, India had taken 17 catches in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, and dropped 7 (now the number is 11). Their catching efficiency was only 71% before this encounter, placing them 6th among all the teams.
South Africa lead the charts with 79% efficiency. Against Pakistan, India took 9 catches and dropped 2, while the number was 1 against the Netherlands. Something flipped again against SA, as they dropped three. And now against Bangladesh, it has been a total disaster. The Cricviz stats further tell us, that since the last T20 World Cup 2024, India had taken 114, and dropped 48.
That is not just restricted to the T20I format. Last year, in the 50-over World Cup, India had dropped 18 catches and their catching efficiency was only 66%. They had 74 misfields too, which was the most in the tournament.
