DRS, Jan 9: India player undergoes surgery, Sarfaraz Khan creates record & Suryavanshi new Samson?

Tilak

Tilak Varma has been ruled out of the first three T20Is of the India vs New Zealand series. The 23-year-old underwent emergency surgery on January 7 after being diagnosed with testicular torsion. Tilak’s childhood coach, Salam Bayash, expects him to resume training in 7 to 10 days and be available for the T20 World Cup 2026.

PSL

PCB has sold 2 new PSL franchises. The Hyderabad franchise was sold to The Kingsmen Group (FKS) for PKR 175 crore (approximately INR 56.15 crore), while OZ Developers put in the winning bid for the Sialkot franchise for PKR 1.85 billion (approximately INR 59.36 crore).

Sarfaraz/VHT

Sarfaraz Khan has knocked on the ODI door. The 28-year-old smashed the fastest List A half-century by an Indian, in just 15 balls against Punjab. Just last week, the Mumbai batter had registered his highest List A score. Since the group stage matches of VHT have ended, the quarterfinals are set.

Vaibhav Samson

Ravichandran Ashwin has heaped praise on Vaibhav Suryavanshi and thinks he might be ready to replace Sanju Samson as the Rajasthan Royals opener. After his 127-run knock against South Africa, the former Indian spinner wants to see what the 14-year-old does in the Under-19 ODI World Cup. IPL 2026 season.

Brook

Harry Brook has apologised for his unbecoming conduct. An incident that happened in November has come to light after the Ashes ended. Brook was involved in an altercation and was punched by a bouncer in Wellington the night before playing a match against New Zealand. ECB has issued a final warning and imposed an INR 36 lakh fine on Brook.

Starc/Ashes

Australia has retained the Ashes after beating England by 5 wickets in Sydney and clinching the series 4-1. Travis Head was named ‘player of the match’ for his 163-run knock, while Mitchell Starc bagged the ‘player of the series’ award for taking 31 wickets and 156 runs, including 2 fifties, in the series.
