The Test Season 2: Amazon annouces second Season of The Test, four part series to be launched in 2023 – Check out

The four-part second season, which will premiere in early 2023 and remain only available on Amazon’s Prime Video, will take fans inside the hive mind of the Australian men’s Test team from Paine’s resignation, the Ashes series victory, Langer’s departure, and the tour of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

In a preview glimpse released yesterday in conjunction with Prime Video’s showcase event, Travis Head is seen throwing his bat across the Galle dressing room in the most eye-catching scene, and Nathan Lyon and David Warner are both seen losing it in the locker room.

In Galle, where the two Tests of a drawn series were played, Warner is seen slamming a refrigerator door, cursing, and then hurling a water bottle he just picked up at a wall. Lyon, in a Pakistani dressing room, declares that the unknown match currently underway is “the worst I’ve ever been involved in.”

The Karachi Test in particular was frustrating for the Australians as they took a commanding first-inning lead and set a target of 506, only to have Pakistan bat out 171 overs to level the match. Both of the tests in Rawalpindi and Karachi ended in high-scoring draws.

Mitchell Marsh provides narration at the beginning of the preview, saying: “We don’t own the Baggy Green. We understand the privilege we have to wear the Baggy Green.”

The final lines of the trailer’s dialogue, which are also from Marsh, are particularly poignant because they reveal the topic of the second season: “We have a direction we want to go. Like, this is Pat’s team. And this is our team.”

The Test’s inaugural season focused on the rebuilding of the Australian Test team from the Newlands crisis in 2018 to winning the Ashes on English soil in 2019. Former coach Langer had a key role in this process.

The Test

After receiving a short-term contract extension, Langer decided to retire in February of this year following rumours of friction between the coach and players during his stay. Langer turned down the request to participate in an interview for Season Two of The Test.

The first episode deals with Paine’s departure, showing players in quarantine in Brisbane witnessing the wicketkeeper’s tearful resignation press conference. In the sneak peek, Alex Carey is seen holding two Baggy Green caps and donning one of them.

The Ashes victory will likely be covered in-depth in the first two episodes, with a particular focus on Scott Boland. The third episode features a detailed look at Usman Khawaja’s personal life and multicultural upbringing. Usman Khawaja experienced a super series with the bat while playing in his native Pakistan. This episode also features a discussion of Langer’s departure and the appointment of Andrew McDonald.

The second season then concludes with a look at the trip of Sri Lanka, which was played there under a constitutional and economic crisis and ended with an innings loss to draw the two-Test series.

Amazon’s publicity describes the docuseries as showing an intimate side to the Australian men’s cricket team as they strive to be the best in the world, in the face of disruptive leadership changes” and “an insight into modern leadership and empowerment at the highest level of sport”.

The specific release date and running time of each of the four episodes have not yet been confirmed by Amazon’s Prime Video, but it will be accessible internationally in more than 240 countries and territories “this summer.”
