Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand in second round of German Open, eye Paris qualification points

German Open: The likes of HS Prannoy, PV Sindhu, Satwik/Chirag, and Lakshya Sen, all have opted out of the tournament.

The Indian women’s doubles team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand managed to progress to the second round of the German Open 2024, after a tough three-setter against Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Yin-Hui and Lin Jhih Yun 18-21, 21-11, 21-13 in 57 minutes. Seeded fourth in the tournament, Treesa and Gayatri are eyeing some crucial points at stake, for the Paris 2024 qualification.

Both Treesa and Gayatri, who played an important part in India’s Badminton Asia Team Championships victory, need some solid wins under their belt, to make it to Paris, and are currently 27th in the pecking order.

Youngster Subramanian Enters Main Draw of German Open

Prior to this, India’s Junior World Championships medalist, Sankar Subramanian made it to the main round by winning his two qualification matches. First he beat German shuttler Kai Schaefer, 21-17, 21-10 in 33 minutes. After that, he defeated Tobias Kuenzi of Switzerland in the next round 21-11, 21-18.

Now in the main draw of the German Open, Subramanian is slated to face Canada’s Brian Yang. Meanwhile, the German Open is the sixth tournament on the BWF calendar, and the Paris Olympics qualification window will end of April 30th.
