Mumbai Meteors began its journey in the league with a lead. They were cruising with a 10-6 and never allowed the Calicut Heroes to make a comeback as they won the set 15-10.
The Heroes however were undeterred and came back strong in the next game. They kept inducing the pressure on their opponents and the errors started to build up on the Meteors side. Their foreign recruit Hiroshi’s serve struck the nets, as the Heroes won the second set 15-9.
The team from Kerala further built on their momentum. In the third set too they started to dominate. Their foreign signing Sandoval blocked a spike successfully as he also clinced a super point to help his team win the third set 15-8.
Calicut’s Sandoval’s continued his good show but the Meteors managed to claw their way back and put on a good fight. At one stage the set was neck-to-neck as the Meteors were forcing the game into the decider. However Heroes brought the thrilling encounter to an end by winning it 15-14. With that they also won the contest.
However the customary final set got underway soon. With nothing left to fight the Meteors played an error-prone game. Calicut closed the set at 15-11, and ended the match 4-1.
