While a lot of MMA fans and pundits have suggested that this is one step too far for Sean O’Malley, Dana White had an interesting take on this matter. During a recent appearance on My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox, the UFC Boss talked about a variety of topics.

While speaking on the upcoming Sean O’Malley vs Petr Yan, Dana White claimed that both fighters wanted to fight each other. He said:
“O’Malley was ready, he wanted this fight. He wanted Petr Yan. You know we kicked it around, battled with it a little bit back and forth. Yan wanted the fight, made all the sense in the world.”
As mentioned earlier, this is a huge step for Sean O’Malley. He has never fought a guy inside the top 5, let alone a former champion.
However, Sean O’Malley will be walking into the fight with a significant height advantage over Petr Yan and if he manages to use this effectively, he can certainly trouble the Russian.
On the flipside, the former Bantamweight champion on the other hand will be hopeful to get another shot at the title following his potential win over ‘Suga’. It also worth noting that Yan has opened up as a massive favorite.
However, regardless of who wins the fight, the fans can expect to be thoroughly entertained. With that being said, it will be interesting to see how the fight plays out come October 22nd at UFC 280.
