The Australian was the frontrunner to take the job at Spurs. He was in touch with the club and signed an agreement till 2027. Spurs were in search of a new manager since the departure of Antonio Conte. Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason took interim charge for the remainder of the season.

Postecoglou joined Celtic in 2021 and before this, he had only experience in Europe when he was in charge of Greek lower league side Panachaiki in 2008. The 57-year-old won the Australian title with South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar. He has won Japan’s top flight with Yokohama F Marinos and also guided the Australian national team to victory at the 2015 Asian Cup.

Daniel Levy, club Chairman welcomed Postecoglou: “Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead.”

Tottenham’s job would be the toughest of his career. After qualifying for the Champions League last season, they failed to finish in the top four. Tottenham finished eighth in the table and failed to qualify for any European competition. It will be the first time since 2009-10 that Tottenham will not play in Europe.

Postecoglou becomes Tottenham’s fourth permanent boss, after Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Conte, since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino in 2019. Poch was the last most successful manager for Spurs who is currently taking charge at Chelsea. The new Spurs boss will also become the first Australian to take charge of a Premier League side.
