Likely candidates for Sunrisers Hyderabad captaincy
With Kane Williamson gone, SRH will certainly be looking for for an experienced campaigner to lead the team. The franchisee is eyeing for a player who can not only gel within the setup but also be able to get the best out of the players. Ben Stokes who is currently leading England test team is likely to be the captaincy given his pedigree at international level.
Besides Stokes, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will also be in contention considering as he has previously led the team in couple of matches. He had to lead the franchise in 6 matches ending up with two wins and four. Even though he does not have captaincy experience he is very much familiar with the things in franchisee having spent a lot of time playing for them. It remains to see if SRH decides to gamble with the experienced pacer.
Aiden Markram is another captaincy option having established himself as the pillar of the team’s middle order last season. Even though he lacks captaincy experience, an SRH source while speaking to Insidesport has revealed that the franchise is still exploring a few options for captaincy before appointing Aiden Markram as their new captain.

Mayank Agarwal
Prior to the auction, Punjab Kings released Mayank Agarwal. Agarwal is a smart player who has the ability to be explosive in the early overs and can bat at the top of the order. As they want to create a strong opening duo. He may team up in the top order with Abhishek Sharma, which will be a good foundation for the Hyderabad franchise to build on. This year, there may be interest in the Karnataka batsman, which might present SRH with a golden opportunity.
Cameron Green
The Australian has shown his capability as an opener. He destroyed the Indian bowling attack during T20 series before the T20 World Cup. With SRH having announced their intention to splurge money on him this would be a major coup.
SAM CURRAN:
The England allrounder will be the sough after-player during the IPL 2022 auction. The all-rounder played a key role in England winning the T20 World Cup. Not only will he score runs with the bat but is also a good death-bowling option. Curran will undoubtedly strengthen the SRH bowling team even further.
Ben Stokes
With the team in need of an experienced leader, Ben Stokes ticks all the boxes. Over the past few years, Stokes has excelled in every format of cricket. Not only can be get runs at no 6 position but can also bowl full quota of overs. Hs captaincy experience will also come in handy and SRH will look to go all out and buy him at the auction.
IPL Auction 2023 – Key details
- The auction is scheduled for December 23 in Kochi.
- The purse value of all teams has been increased by 5 crores, making a total of INR 95 crores for each team.
- Out of their total purse value, the franchises need to spend a minimum of 75% during the auction event.
- Earlier, from a list of 991 players, a total of 369 players from 10 teams were shortlisted. However, 36 additional players were added to the final list on request of the teams, making a total of 405 players to be presented at the IPL auction.
- Out of 405 players, 273 are Indian cricketers, and 132 are overseas, including four from associate nations.
- The total capped players are 119, uncapped players are 282 and 4 from associate nations.
- A maximum of 87 slots are now available, with up to 30 being allocated for overseas players.
- The auction will start at 14:30 IST.
