IPL 2022 Playoffs Race: Who are the four teams whose chances hinge on MI?

RCB, SRH, KKR & PBKS are the teams who are pinning hopes that MI should beat DC in their last league match. RCB are on 14 points with a negative NRR. They still have one game left against GT. SRH are on 10 points with two games yet to be played against MI and PBKS. KKR are on 12 points with one game left to be played against LSG. PBKS are on 12 points with one match left against SRH.

MI has to beat DC in order for these four have a chance to qualify for playoffs. If DC wins against MI, then all the four teams RCB, KKR, SRH & PBKS will be knocked out.

IPL Playoffs Race

Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered a disappointing 54-run defeat vs Punjab Kings meaning they go into the final game of the season with 14 points on board. They have slipped to 5th with DC jumping to 4th spot on a better Net Run Rate. A win would boost RCB’s chances but a loss would see them crash out.

  • RCB need to win their last match of the season to remain in playoff contention
  • RCB will not be able to qualify with 14 points due to their poor Net Run Rate.
  • RCB Remaining Matches: GT

Sunrisers Hyderabad (8th, 10 Points): Sunrisers Hyderabad have complicated matters for themselves with five straight losses with the latest against the Kolkata Knight Riders. SRH are now 8th and need to win their last two games and hope that results go in their favor should they aim to make the playoffs.

  • SRH will need to win their remaining two games and hope for results to go their way to qualify.
  • SRH will also have to improve their NRR which took a hit after back-to-back big defeats vs RCB and KKR.
  • SRH’s remaining matches: MI, PBKS

Punjab Kings (7th, 12 Points): Punjab Kings have been all but knocked out after their 17-run loss to Delhi Capitals. They have a negative NRR and can reach a maximum of 14 points. If DC win their last game, PBKS will be knocked out irrespective of their result in the last match.

  • PBKS have been virtually knocked out after the loss to DC.
  • Even if PBKS win their last match, they will not be guaranteed a Top 4 finish.
  • If DC or RCB win their last games, PBKS will be knocked out.
  • PBKS can reach a maximum of 14 points and that won’t be enough for them to qualify.
  • PBKS Remaining Matches: SRH

Kolkata Knight Riders (6th, 12 Points): KKR remain alive in the competition with back-to-back big wins over Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. KKR are now 6th with 12 points to their name and will hope to win their last game and remain in the hunt for the playoffs.

  • KKR need to win their last game and hope for results to go their way.
  • KKR can reach a maximum of 14 points which might not be enough to make the playoffs
  • With three teams locked in at 12 points each and three other teams above that mark, 14 points will not be enough to qualify.
  • KKR Remaining Matches:  LSG
