With Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) announcing today that Shreyas Iyer will captain their squad, the other two teams Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) will soon be announcing their skippers Faf du Plessis and Shikhar Dhawan respectively. The IPL 2022 will be a 10-team affair with the new additions of Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. The rest of the teams all retained their previous captains and headed into the IPL 2022 Mega Auction to select their squad.
While Punjab Kings are ready to snub Mayank Agarwal for Shikhar Dhawan as the captain for IPL 2022 edition, RCB are all set to name Faf du Plessis. The former South African captain joined RCB at the mega auction for Rs 7 Cr.

With Glenn Maxwell set to miss the first few matches of IPL 2022, Faf is expected to be announced as the new RCB captain soon. An announcement on PBKS captaincy will also be made soon as co-owner Ness Wadia confirmed during the auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders: The Kolkata Knight Riders faced a debacle regarding their captain choice last season. Dinesh Kartik the then skipper of the squad vacated his spot and English batter Eoin Morgan took over the reins of the team for the remainder of the season. Both Kartik and Morgan were not retained by KKR and thus the Kolkata outfits were left without a skipper. In the IPL 2022 Auction, KKR bought Shreyas Iyer for a price of 12.25 Crores and have announced that he will captain the side. While Kartik found a team, Morgan remained unsold in the auction.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Royal Challengers Bangalore has been left without a captain after Virat Kohli decided to step down from the post in late 2021. Though Kohli was retained for a salary cap of 15 Crores, the team is yet to announce their next skipper. Faf du Plessis who joined them in the IPL 2022 Auction for a price of 7 Crores is set to be the skipper of the squad.
Punjab Kings: The Punjab Kings are also left to reveal their captain for IPL 2022. Heading into IPL 2022, it was made certain the team would be built around Mayank Agarwal who was retained for a price of 12 Crores. Shikhar Dhawan joined the side for a price of 8.25 Crores, will be the next captain of the team.
Mumbai Indians: The 5 times champions and the most successful team in the history of the IPL will be led from the front by Rohit Sharma. Sharma is also the skipper of the Indian National Team in the limited-over format of the game. The 34-year-old opener was retained by the Mumbai Indians for a salary cap of 16 Crores.

Chennai Super Kings: The Chennai outfits, as usual, will be under the captaincy of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. The Chennai team has won the prestigious competition 4 times and is the current defending champions. Touted to be the last season of MS Dhoni in IPL, Dhoni took a pay cut from the previous year and was retained by CSK for a salary cap of 12 Crores.

Delhi Capitals: The Delhi outfits will be captained by the fiery batter and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. In IPL 2021, Pant took over the role of captain after Shreyas Iyer was injured and missed an entire half of a season. With Iyer not being retained, Pant was selected as the skipper of the Delhi team. Pant was retained for a price of 16 Crores.
Rajasthan Royals: The one-time champions Rajasthan Royals will be captained by their wicketkeeping batter Sanju Samson. Samson has been a part of the Rajasthan Royals for a long time and the team will be eyeing to win the title under his captaincy. Sanju Samson was retained for a salary cap of 14 Crores.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Sunrisers Hyderabad changed their captain in IPL 2021 when the duty of the team was handed to Kane Williamson in place of David Warner. Though SRH won their only title under Warner, the Australian was not retained and went under the hammer in IPL 2022 auction. On the other hand, Kane Williamson who will captain the side was retained for a price of 14 Crores.

Lucknow Super Giants: One of the debutants of IPL 2022 picked up KL Rahul from the draft for a whopping sum of 17 Crores. The new team will be under the captaincy of KL Rahul who would be aiming to challenge the title this season.
Gujarat Titans: Homeboy Hardik Pandya was bought by the other debutant team of IPL 2022 from the draft for a price of 15 Crores. It was also decided that the former Mumbai Indians all-rounder will captain the team in IPL 2022.
