According to Manjrekar, it is a must for the men in blue to select Deepak Hooda in the team, given his fabulous performance in IPL 2022. Speaking to Sony Sports, Manjrekar opined “I am expecting him to get a look in this (Ireland) series because I thought we saw the best of Deepak Hooda in this last IPL. He has been around for a long time, and you have seen sporadic displays of his work and his ability. The last IPL, he came of age.”

Notably, Hooda represented Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 and was one of their best players. He scored 451 runs from 15 matches at an average of 32.21 and a strike rate of 136.66, while he also bowled four overs and returned with one wicket.
“India needs somebody like him down the order. It’s a very difficult job, and Hooda did a terrific job in the IPL. He is somebody that India will, I am sure, look at,” Manjrekar further added, elaborating on the importance of Hooda in the playing XI.

However, despite Manjrekar’s claims, it will not be easy for VVS Laxman to include Hooda in the team since India already has two top-quality middle-order batters in Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik. Instead of Hooda, Laxman might as well go with Axar Patel, who can not only contribute with the bat but is also a wily spinner.
