The former world no. 1 Japanese player and the two-time world champion Kento Momota has fired a fresh warning to all his competitors, as he won the Korea Masters on Sunday after beating compatriot Koki Watanbe 21-16, 21-15 in the final. It is noteworthy, that this is Momota’s first title since November 2021, with his last trophy coming at the Indonesia Open, where he beat Anders Antonsen.
In the previous round, Momota beat China’s Lei Lanxi 21-10, 21-19. As far as the final is concerned, Momota was head and shoulders above his opponent. In the first game, while the match was evenly poised at 7-8 in his favour, from there on he completely took over the match. The second game proved to be easier, as Momota raced to an 11-3 lead and never looked back.

Kento Momota had been struggling for form in the last two-three years, ever since his horrific car accident. In 2023, the majority of tournaments he played in, he was ousted in the first or second round, with the only exception being the German Open, where he lost in the semis. This win at Korea Masters will not only boost his confidence but also improve his BWF ranking significantly from the present WR-52.
