Duleep Trophy semifinals: South Zone vs North Zone: Central Zone vs West Zone: The race for the Duleep Trophy final is expected to be a close encounter. There are four teams on the fray in the semifinal. South Zone are set to meet North Zone in a big clash at Salem Cricket Foundation Stadium in SNR Collge Ground. In the other final four match, it is a battle between West Zone and Central at SNR College Cricket Ground. Both the matches are set to start on Thursday at 9: 30 am. West Zone made it to the semifinals after their first innings lead over Northeast Zone in the quarterfinals. Likewise, on the virtue of first innings lead over East Zone, Nort Zone made it to the next round. South Zone and Central Zone were given byes in the first round.
When the teams battle it out from Wednesday, a tough match is expected on the cards. There are not immediate favourites. It is about performing consistently over a period of four days to secure the Duleep Trophy final slot.
When it comes to the North vs South clash, there are some big names in both the teams. The team from South will be led by India batter Hanuma Vihari. He will have quality names by his sides, including Mayank Agarwal, Manish Pandey, B Inderjith among others. The North team come into this game confident with the likes of Yash Dhull, Dhruv Shorey, Himanshu Rana amongst the runs. They will be led by Mandeep Singh.
The other clash between Central Zone meet West Zone is expected be another close contest. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, Yashashvi Jaiswal are in stunning form for West. Even their bowling attack is potent with Jaydev Unadkat, Chintan Gaja among others. Comparatively, Central do not have big names. But they have players — Priyam Garg, Venkatesh Iyer, Akshay Wadkar – who can trouble the opponents.
