CSK vs KKR, IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings have sealed two consecutive wins. On Tuesday, they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 32 runs. Bowlers were the stars as they restricted KKR to 160/7 after posting 192/5. Sanju Samson ended as CSK’s top scorer, with 48 after KKR put the 5-time champions to bat first. Ruturaj Gaikwad failed once again, while Ayush Mhatre maximised the powerplay with his 37-cameo as CSK scored 72 runs. KKR wrestled back control in the latter half, as CSK scored just 120 runs from there. Sunil Narine and Kartik Tyagi were the standouts, while Varun Chakaravarthy disappointed once again, as Ajinkya Rahane didn’t complete his quota of overs.
Samson-Mhatre show the way
As Ruturaj Gaikwad extended his poor run of form with 6-ball 7, Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre took charge. Mhatre smashed 17-ball 38, while Sanju hit 48 off 32 as Chennai scored 72/2 in the powerplay.
That powerplay won CSK the game as scoring runs became difficult in the middle overs after Dewald Brevis perished for 41 off 29. Sunil Narine (1/21) put the squeeze. In the death overs, CSK could only manage 30/2 with Shivam Dube and Sarfaraz Khan struggling to hit the big shots. But as they ended up with 192/5, it was still a good score.
No end in sight for KKR
Kolkata sent in Sunil Narine with Finn Allen to maximise the powerplay. But neither of them lasted long enough. Allen extended his poor run, falling for 1 in the 2nd over. Narine perished in the 5th over for 24 as KKR only managed 36/2 in the powerplay. Angkrish Raghuvanshi fell after a 50-run stand with Rahane. And then, Noor Ahmed controlled the game with a twin strike in the 11th over, removing Rahane and Cameron Green, who got a golden duck. Rinku Singh also struggled to get going and then on, it became a formality. Rovman Powell (31 off 22) and Ramandeep Singh (35 off 23) tried to salvage but could not pull off a miracle. KKR ended their innings at 160/7.

CSK vs KKR Match Preview: Kolkata Knight Riders
14/04/2026 18:21
Kolkata Knight Riders have had their own struggles. With three defeats and a no-result, KKR have scored just one point. They have struggled with the balance and form of star players like Cameron Green, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy.
As KKR return to Chepauk, they are expected to bring Chakaravarthy back. It is Chakaravarthy’s home ground and could trouble CSK batters. KKR’s bowling has been a point of concern as well. With no Matheesha Pathirana yet, KKR need to get the best out of their available bowlers, who are also struggling for form.

The two heavyweights of the Indian Premier League are placed 9th and 10th on the IPL 2026 Points Table after four rounds. CSK suffered three consecutive losses to start with before beating Delhi Capitals to open their account.
Sanju Samson finally found his rhythm, slamming a century, while Ayush Mhatre scored his second fifty of this IPL. However, concerns remain over captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has scores of 6, 28, 7 and 15. There has been a demand to demote Ruturaj to No 3 for Mhatre to open with Samson. But so far, the CSK management hasn’t paid attention to that. With Gaikwad slow to get off the blocks, he has put his opening partner under pressure to score runs in the powerplay.
CSK’s bowling too, hasn’t been great, to be polite. While Jamie Overton bowled an excellent spell of 4/18 against Delhi Capitals, Khaleel Ahmed and Gurjapneet struggled. Two spinners, Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad, were not impressive either. They need them at their best against KKR.
MA Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report
14/04/2026 18:04
The MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) pitch has traditionally been slow and spin-friendly due to its dry red-soil surface, offering grip and turn as the match progresses. It used to favour spinners in the middle overs. However, in IPL 2026, the surface has shown signs of being more batter-friendly early on, with better bounce and carry. In both matches at this venue this season, teams batting first have scored north of 200 runs.
If the Chepauk use a similar black-soil surface, expect more runs. However, there is another red soil pitch that tends to slow down and offer assistance to spinners.
