Facing a challenging time in his career, Steve Smith finally finished the drought with a half-century in the IND vs AUS 3rd Test at the Gabba, Brisbane. On the second day of the 3rd Test between India and Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane, Steve Smith came out to bat at the 4th position. After facing more than 100 balls, the Australian star finally completed his second half-century of the year, supported initially by Marnus Labuschagne and later by Travis Head, who himself scored a half-century before Smith.
First Fifty in 11 months, road to redemption for Smith
This was the first fifty-plus score for Steve Smith in 11 months. The Australian batter last scored a 90-plus score in January this year against the West Indies, in the second Test of the series, where he played a not-out knock of 91* runs, which also came at the Gabba. It seems like Steve Smith likes the Brisbane pitch, as both of his half-centuries this year have come on the same ground. However, the batter, who once used to carry Australia’s batting, hasn’t scored a century this year.

Smith’s 2024 till the Brisbane Test
Steve Smith’s 2024 has been a challenging year with the bat, as he has played 8 matches and 14 innings, amassing 270 runs at an average of 27. His performance has been a mix of consistency and frustration, with only one half-century to his name, highlighting his struggle to convert starts into big scores. Despite his immense talent, Smith’s 2024 has seen him fall short of his usual dominant standards, scoring only one half-century till the Brisbane Test, which reflects a lack of important breakthroughs in his batting.
