Did Vasiliy Lomachenko join the Ukraine Army?

Back in 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine, Lomachenko was still fresh off a win over Richard Commey and looking forward to a world title bout against George Kambosos Jr. However, when he heard the news of the invasion, the former world champion did not hesitate and quickly enlisted himself in the Ukraine Army to defend his nation.

The Ukrainian took to social media to post pictures of himself in the Ukrainian army uniform to show his participation in the war. In his time in the Ukrainian army, Lomachenko was a part of the Counterterrorism Defense Battalion Belgorod-Dniéster.

And although this proved that he will always give up everything to serve his country in times of need, Lomachenko appears to be out of the Ukrainian army for now. After five months in the Army, Lomachenko received special permission to leave the country to train for his bout against Jamaine Ortiz. Victory in that bout earned the Ukrainian a shot at undisputed gold.

The Ukrainian could benefit from using the experiences of war in the ring against a tough opponent in Devin Haney. While the former champion clearly showed that there are more important things in life, you can be sure he is giving it his all for this contest.

Do you think Vasiliy Lomachenko’s time in the Ukrainian Army will benefit him in the ring against Devin Haney?
