Bigger Window for IPL: Sourav Ganguly-Ramiz Raja – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has countered his counterpart, PCB President Ramiz Raja, by saying IPL will get bigger window. Earlier, the BCCI had talked about 84 and 94 IPL games towards the end of the next five years cycle and also about a window of close to 2 and half months. Raja is clearly unhappy with the proposed move and has told he will oppose Ganguly and BCCI’s stance in the ICC meeting to be held in Birmingham from (July 22-26). Sourav Ganguly optimistic about the expansion of IPL: “We will wait and see what happens. The next two years will be 74 and (we will) then see how it develops. It’s hard to say now. We will see what happens at the ICC meeting (July 22-26 in Birmingham),” Ganguly was quoted as saying to Telegraph.

Bigger Window for IPL: Why has Ramiz Raja told it will counter Ganguly’s IPL expansion move?

  • PCB players are banned from IPL since 2010. If ICC allows BCCI a 2 and half months window, then top teams won’t play international cricket from April-May against Pakistan.
  • Pakistan will be left with a second-string team if they plan a series during this window.
  • Raja wants ICC to look into the matter so that Pakistan gets to play international cricket during that IPL time.
  • For the next two years, BCCI plans to have 74 matches. Pakistan President will now oppose BCCI’s stance in the ICC meeting.

Sourav Ganguly Birthday: BCCI President turns 50, celebrates his D-day in London

Meanwhile, Ganguly turned 50 on July 7. He has gone to London to celebrate his special day with his family. The BCCI President loves to spend English summer in London and visits the place every year. The former India captain feels blessed to play the sport for such a long time.

“I don’t think so. When I sit back and reflect, I feel happy. In sport you can’t do things differently because it is an after-thought… in sport, things happen in real time. You have to take the decision in that particular moment. So I don’t think I would tread that path where I would have done things differently. I did what I felt was the best at that particular moment and that is what sport is all about. Reflecting doesn’t make sense because you don’t get a chance to redo things again.”
