Houghton heaps praise on Pant
With the T20 World Cup and Asia Cup on the horizon, Rishabh Pant has been one of the best batters. Houghton, who was fortunate not to have faced Pant in the ongoing ODI series against Zimbabwe as he praised him and said, “Nowadays, obviously Pant is really well built for the T20 format and the fifty overs but I am sure that he is a great Test player as well.
“He’s got so much innovation, so much power and he looks like he plays with a smile on his face all the time, again one of the greats produced by India,” Hughton added.
He also pointed out the good headache India have with the choices of multiple wicketkeepers and added, “I think that is the biggest problem India is facing at the international level, how do you pick your best 11? How many people do you play with? Fortunately, you play so much cricket and so many tours that you are able to change your players accordingly.”

Pant has had a mixed run apart from being tried as an opener twice against England. Since the T20I series against South Africa in June, where he was the stand-in skipper, Pant’s highest score has been 44 in the fourth T20I against West Indies at Lauderhill, USA.
Rishabh was recently tried as an opener in the T20 format but will operate in the middle order as Kl Rahul has returned back to the Indian team fold. He was also the ‘Player of the Match’ when India won the final ODI against England in July to win the series 2-1.

There is no doubt about the competition, which exists. Both the players are match-winners on their given day and have the ability to change the game in a matter of a few balls.
