Czech Linda Fruhvirtova entered the quarterfinal at the Chennai Open after defeating fifth seed Rebecca Paterson in straight sets in the second round. Fruhvirtova, who is ranked 130th in the world will face the winner between Varvara Gracheva and Carol Zhou in the last-8. Fruhvirtova came into the tournament after reaching the second round at the US Open and carried forward that same confidence as she dominated the contest against the much higher ranked opponent to scrape past her in straight sets.
Nao Hibino vs Wang Qiang
Japanese Qualifier Nao Hibino moved into the quarterfinals of the Chennai Open by winning against Chinese sixth seed Qiang Wang 6-2, 6-3 in straight sets. Hibino, who is ranked 185th in the world has been dominating in the tournament and continued her good show to clinch one of the biggest victories in her career. She will next face the winner between Anastasia Gasanova and Katie Swan.
Karman Kaur Thandi vs Eugenie Bouchard
Former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard defeated India’s Karman Kaur Thandi in straight sets in the second round of the Chennai Open on Wednesday. After winning the first set, Bouchard saved three set points against the Indian and took the set into the tie-break and eventually won the match 6-2, 7-6 to advance to the quarterfinal.
Katarzyna Kawa vs Rebecca Marino
90th ranked Rebecca Marino booked her spot in the quarterfinals of the Chennai Open as she sailed past Katarzyna Kawa 7-5, 6-3 in the second round. Marino will next face the winner between Polish Magda Linette and Russia’s Oksana Selekhmeteva.
