T20 World Cup: Check out seven iconic moments from seventh edition of T20 World Cup: The seventh edition of T20 World Cup is still in progress but it has already given us a lot of moments to look back at. From four wickets in four balls to Quinton de Kock controversy, there was plenty on offer for the fans to enjoy.

Let us look at the seven iconic moments from Round 1 and Round 2 of the 2021 T20 World Cup being played in the UAE and Oman:

1) Curtis Campher’s 4 wickets in 4 balls

Ireland’s fast bowler Curtis Campher took four wickets in four balls in the Round 1 clash between Ireland and the Netherlands and helped his team thrash the opposition by seven wickets in a first-week qualifier.

Campher claimed a hat-trick and then struck again to return figures of 4-26 as the Netherlands were dismissed for 106. He became only the third bowler in T20 International history to claim four wickets in four balls after Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka in 2019.

2) Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 152-run partnership against India

Pakistan started things on a high as they defeated arch-rivals India in their opening Super 12 clash, courtesy of an unbeaten 152-run stand between Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.

Chasing 152 for victory, Babar (68) and Rizwan (79) steered their team home with 13 balls to spare in Dubai. Left-arm quick Shaheen Shah Afridi set up victory — Pakistan’s first against their neighbors in six attempts in the tournament — with figures of 3-31 that restricted India to 151-7 despite a valiant 57 from skipper Virat Kohli.

3) Quinton de Kock withdrawal from South Africa’s match against the West Indies after refusing to take the knee

It was not the happiest of the moments for the Proteas opener as he got himself in a fix after he withdrew at the last-minute against West Indies. However, a few hours later, de Kock clarified his stance and agreed to the directive issued by Cricket South Africa where they had made it mandatory for players to take a knee in support of the BLM Movement.

“If me taking a knee helps to educate others, and makes the lives of others better, I am more than happy to do so,” said de Kock.

4) India captain Virat Kohli’s befitting reply to trolls

Fans indeed make the game interesting but sometimes they go over the line in criticizing players if they fail to live up to their expectations. The same happened after Pakistan defeated India. The trolls targeted Indian pacer Mohammad Shami for leaking runs and passed leud comments involving Shami’s religion.

The BCCI asked players to keep quiet but Indian skipper Virat Kohli felt the need to give a reply to such people. “There’s a good reason why we are playing on the field and not a bunch of spineless people on social media that have no courage to actually speak to any individual in person,” said Kohli.

“Attacking someone over their religion is the most pathetic thing that a human being can do,” the Indian captain added.

5) Jos Butler’s first T20I century against Sri Lanka

Jos Buttler is living the time of his life. The 31-year-old is already in the top-scorer charts and he did it with a stupendous unbeaten knock of 101 — his maiden century in 86 T20 internationals– against Sri Lanka.

Buttler smashed six fours and six sixes in his 67-ball knock as he achieved the feat of making centuries in all three formats.

6) Wanindu Hasaranga takes a hat-trick

Sri Lanka’s campaign may have come to an end but they have impressed everyone with their performance against big teams. Wanindu Hasaranga, their leg-spinning all-rounder, has impressed the most with 16 wickets at an average of under 10. Adding to his delight, he also took a hat-trick against South Africa.

The 24-year-old took his wickets total for 2021 to 36, the year’s best at the time of his country’s elimination. “Hasaranga is a special cricketer,” said coach Mickey Arthur.

7) Dwayne Bravo calls it a day

Dwayne Bravo is undoubtedly one of the best to have played the shortest format of the game. But everything has to come to an end and so does Dwayne Bravo’s T20I career. The Trinidadian has decided to hang his boots and he can proudly look at them on his wall and remember his 500+ T20 wickets.

He is all set to be joined by another great player, the Universe Boss. Even though Gayle has not announced it, he is waiting to do it before his home crowd.

Both Bravo, 38, and 42-year-old Gayle – who played in the 2012 and 2016 T20 title-winning teams — were given a guard of honor by the Australian players in Abu Dhabi.
