“Apart from fogging to keep mosquitoes away, we are spraying the stadium and the complex beyond with anti-snake chemicals,” ACA president Taranga Gogoi told The Indian Express. It is understood that the snake repellents will prevent the reptiles and other pests from not being close to the stadium.

Snake trouble has plagued the Barsapara Stadium previously. Previously in 2022 in a game against South Africa, at the same ground, a snake was found venturing into the ground, thereby stopping the play for a considerable amount of time. This time the Assam Cricket Academy made no shortcuts to do away with their preparations.

The aim of the Assam Cricket Academy is very simple. They want to present the stadium in the best condition for the upcoming game to the BCCI in their hopes to get the rights to host an ICC World Cup game, scheduled to take place in India, later this year.

“This match is very crucial for the city, considering the fact that the ICC World Cup is fast approaching. It will for sure be closely monitored, and if things go well, the ACA might stand a chance to host a World Cup match,” said BCCI joint secretary Devajit Saik.

Troubles have often arisen at the Barsapara Stadium previously. Apart from a snake being found crawling on the ground, the stadium was plunged into partial darkness after the floodlights went out. A couple of years ago a match between India vs SriLanka was abandoned when the ground remained wet. The match had to be washed off though the ground had a three-layer cover.
