GT vs SRH, IPL 2023: Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Heinrich Klaasen has been fined 10% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct following his team’s seven-wicket loss to Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday. “Klaasen admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.7 which states the use of public criticism/inappropriate comment in the IPL’s Code of Conduct,” stated an IPL media release. What happened?
Avesh Khan bowled a waist-high full toss to Abdul Samad in the 19th over, but leg umpire Akshay Totre did not signal it a no-ball. SRH requested a DRS, but to their surprise, TV umpire Yeshwant Barde also decided in favour of the bowling team. Following the incident, the audience became boisterous, as Klaasen blasted it during the mid-innings break.
“Disappointed with the crowd to be honest, that’s not what you want. That also broke the momentum, not great umpiring either,” Klaasen said after the match.
Prerak Mankad’s brilliant half-century, followed by Nicholas Pooran’s blazing effort, led LSG to a seven-wicket win against SRH on Saturday. After opting to bat, SRH managed 182 for six as their batters failed to convert their starts. LSG responded by racing to victory with four balls to spare, returning to winning ways after three matches. Aside from Mankad’s unbeaten 45-ball-64, Marcus Stoinis (40) and Nicholas Pooran (44*) made significant contributions to keep their playoff chances alive.
Meanwhile, SRH ended up being virtually eliminated from playoff contention after suffering their seventh loss of the season.
