Tilak Varma emulates Suryakumar Yadav’s signature ‘reverse scoop’ in IND vs SA 2nd T20I

Tilak Varma plays out a stellar reverse scoop in IND vs SA 2nd T20I in Gqeberha on Tuesday (December 12).

Tilak Varma’s short yet impactful innings during IND vs SA 2nd T20I was highlighted by a stellar reverse scoop. Hitting a delivery off Lisaad Williams, Tilak emulated Suryakumar Yadav’s signature ‘reverse scoop’ in front of his skipper to stun the crowd. The young batter got on one knee, scooped the delivery right over the keeper’s head from the other side to hit boundary. Varma was soon dismissed amassing 29 runs in 20 balls, with four boundaries and one six to his record.

IND vs SA T20Is audition for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

Despite delivering somewhat ordinary performances in the initial two T20Is of the IND vs AUS T20I series, Tilak Varma showcased his skills in the third match. Batting lower down the order, Tilak played a notable innings, scoring a quickfire 37 off 24 balls. However, he found himself excluded from the squad for the last two T20I matches. It was following the return of Shreyas Iyer to the team.

With Shreyas Iyer dropped, Tilak Varma got a nod at number 3 as India named a strong playing XI for IND vs SA 2nd T20I. Typically positioned around numbers 5 and 6 in the batting order, the 21-year-old Tilak Varma was given a new challenge. This adjustment presented a different scenario for him within the Indian team setup.

With limited seats available and so many young athletes vying for them, time is running out for ICC Men’s T20 WC selection. Two games here, three against Afghanistan next month, and it’s all over to the IPL. Thus making the league a key deciding factor once again.
