Dustin Poirier recently came on as a guest on Daniel Cormier’s ESPN show, DC & RC and while discussing a variety of topics, he talked about the matchups he’s want to make if he was the matchmaker at UFC.

‘The Diamond’ proceeded to name Conor McGregor vs Justin Gaethje as the third fight on his list. Dustin Poirier further predicted that the potential matchup between the two will definitely result in someone “going to sleep”. He said:
“Justin Gaethje vs. the return of Conor McGregor. The hype, the build up, somebody’s going to sleep. I mean, you’re tuning in for a car wreck. A head-on collision and I wanna see it.”
Apart from listing Conor McGregor vs Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier also listed Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush vs Mateusz Gamrot as the matchups he’d like to make.
It is worth noting that Conor McGregor has been out of action for almost a year now. The Irishman suffered a nasty leg injury in his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier. He is currently recovering from the same injury. On the flipside, Justin Gaethje suffered a submission loss to Charles Oliveira. This was his second shot at the UFC Lightweight title earlier this year.
While Conor McGregor is expected to return to the octagon later this year or early 2023, there hasn’t been any confirmation about his next opponent. However, there have been speculations of a potential matchup against Charles Oliveira. But, that matchup seems extremely unlikely.
It remains to be seen as to whether Conor McGregor takes on Justin Gaethje or nor upon his return to the UFC.
