India’s Mithun Manjunath bowed out from the second round at the Taipei Open after losing to fourth seed Kodai Naraoka 24-22, 5-21, 17-21. Priyanshu Rajawat too lost 19-21, 13-21 against Chen Chi-Ting in the second round. Meanwhile Kiran George lost against World No.4 and top seed Chou Tien-chen. Earlier in the day, India’s only remaining women’s singles player Samiya Farooqui bowed out of the tournament after suffering losing in straight games to Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Wen-chi in the second round. Meanwhile, India’s fifth seeded Mixed Doubles pair Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto advanced to quarterfinals after defeating Cheng Kai Wen and Wang Yu Qiao 21-14, 21-17.

Parupalli Kashyap vs Lee Chia-hao
Kashyap lived up to his billing as the third seed as he dominated the first set by taking a 11-5 lead by the interval in the first game. He then continued his good run as he took less than 15 minutes to close the first game 21-10. In the second game, Lee Chia-Hao started positively as he took a 4-1 lead. He entered the break with a four-point lead with the score at 11-7. Cha-Hao continued to maintain his lead despite a good fightback from Kashyap and was looking to take the game to the decider. However from trailing 12-18, Kashyap took five successive points to reduce the deficit to 17-18. He soon managed to take the lead with the score at 20-19 and won the second game to defeat Lee Chia-hao in 36 minutes and booked a spot in the quarterfinals.
Mithun Manjunath vs Kodai Naraoka
The first game was a closely fought one with Manjunath challenging the fourth seed constantly. Despite the challenge, the Japanese managed to maintain a slender lead for majority of the game. However towards the end, Manjunath managed to catch up as he levelled the scores 20-20 and he finally managed to win the first game 24-22.
In the second game, Naraoka gave a strong reply as he completely dominated against the Indian and entered the interval with a 11-1 lead, He then continued his terrific performance to win the second game 21-5. In the decider too, Naraoka didn’t give any chance for Mithun to make a comeback as he entered the interval with a 11-5 lead. After the interval Manjunath managed to reduce the deficit but he was unable to take the lead as the fourth seed won the game to progress to the semifinal.
Kiran George v Chou Tien-chen
Kiran George gave a good fight against the World No.4 and top seed Chou Tien Chen in the second round. In the first game, Chou Tien Chen started on the front foot but George was always looking to catch up with the Taiwanese. Tien-chen entered the break with a 11-8 lead. After the interval, George gave a good fight and took the lead as the score read 15-14 in favour of the Indian. From then on a neck-to-neck battle began between both the players. George couldn’t hold on to his lead as he lost the first game 23-21.
In the second game, George fought back valiantly and lead the game right from the beginning. He managed to enter the interval with a 11-7 lead and completely dominated the game as he won it 21-16 to force the match into a decider. However in the decider, Tien-chen brought forth his A-game as he made it an one-sided affair to win the decider 7-21 and advance to the quarterfinals.
Priyanshu Rajawat vs Chen Chi-ting
Priyanshu Rajawat started the first game on the backfoot as the Chi-ting took the lead and entered the interval by leading 11-6. However, after the interval Priyanshu Rajawat gave a good comeback but he couldn’t go all the way to win the first game as Chi-Ting managed to win it 21-19.
In the second set too Rajawat tried hard to give a good fight but the Chi-Ting had a better game as he went on to win the second game 13-21 to defeat the Indian in straight games.
Women’s Singles
Samiya Farooqui vs Hsu Wen-chi
Samiya Farooqui, who was the only remaining Indian in the women’s singles bowed out of the tournment after losing to Taipei’s Hsu Wen Chi. The first game was well fought by Samiya but she could not close the game and lost it 18-21.
Losing her rhythm at the end of the first game resulted in a disheartening outcome of the second game as well. The Chinese Taipei shuttler won the second game comfortably with a score of 21-13.
The match that went on for 31 minutes resulted in a heartbreaking exit for the Indian in the early stages of the tournament. She had progressed to the second round by defeating Malaysia’s Kisona Selvaduray by 21-15, 21-11.
Men’s Doubles
In the men’s doubles fifth seeded MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila were stunned by Chinese Taipei’s unseeded Su Chieng-heng and Ye Hong-wei. The Indian duo faced a 17-21, 15-21 defeat to bow out from the tournament.
Ishaan Bhatnagar and Sai Pratheek’s campaign too came to an end as they lost to top seeded Chinese Taipei duo Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin 19-21, 23-21, 9-21.
Mixed Doubles
India’s fifth-seeded mixed doubles pair Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Cheng Kai Wen and Wang Yu Qiao in the second round.
The Indian pair defeated Cheng Kai Wen and Wang Yu-Qiao in the mixed doubles match by a big margin of 21-14, 21-17.
