Australia World T20 Champion: Finch admits toss win played huge part in winning T20 world cup, Australia captain ‘Most Successful with SPIN of COIN’ –  Australia have ended their T20 World Cup jinx after Aaron Finch and Co. clinched a memorable win over New Zealand in the final in Dubai on Sunday. The Aussies chased down their target of 173 with relative ease, with Mitchell Marsh and David Warner chipping in with scintillating half-centuries to seal the deal. As expected, toss was yet again the crucial factor, with Aaron Finch calling it right and choosing to chase, which has led to victory on most occasions during the T20 World Cup.

Toss has been a crucial factor in games at the T20 World Cup, especially in Dubai, with teams chasing winning 12 of the 13 games played at the venue. Australia were the latest to join the bandwagon with the most important win of them all, winning the T20 World Cup final, chasing down 173 quite comfortably.

Aaron Finch admitted that he had enjoyed good fortune in winning six tosses out of seven, but insisted he never lost faith in his team’s chances, even after losing by eight wickets to England at the same venue a fortnight earlier.

After the win, Finch said, “I knew a few things would have had to go our way, but we had such a belief in our group that we were as good as anyone in the world. You need a bit of luck in T20, but we played some really good cricket. I tried to play the toss factor down throughout the tournament because I thought we’d have to bat first at some point, but it did play a big part, to be honest. You saw the dew out there: the slower balls were not holding in the wicket. I don’t know how I did it. Maybe it was just fate”

Aaron Finch won six of his seven coin tosses during the T20 World Cup, but his fellow captains did not have the same fortune through the tournament. Kane Williamson, who lost the toss on Sunday, admitted that it played a significant part in the result and rued their luck.

For reference, here’s a look at how Finch’s rival captains have performed at the toss.

Captains Team Matches Toss wins
Kane Williamson New Zealand 7 2
Eoin Morgan England 6 3
Virat Kohli India 5 2
Babar Azam Pakistan 6 4

Kane Williamson did not have much success at the toss, but New Zealand were fortunate enough to chase in four games, while two of their wins batting first came against minnows in Scotland and Namibia. Indian captain Virat Kohli meanwhile lost three tosses, that too in crucial games against Pakistan and New Zealand, which ultimately led to their exit from the T20 World Cup.
