World Champion Neeraj Chopra will be chasing another piece of history this week. The 25-year old is aiming to defend his Diamond League title as he will be in action in the final of the prestigious event on Saturday, 16th September.

The Diamond League Final will take place at the Hayward Field in Oregon, Eugene. This prestigious tournament will feature season’s best performers in each of the athletic disciplines.
Apart from Neeraj Chopra, Murali Sreeshankar and Avinash Sable also made the cut to the Diamond League final from India. Srteeshankar finished thuird in Long Jump, while Sable was sixth in the final standings. However both the athletes decided to skip the event. This makes Neeraj Chopra as the only Indian in the final.
Neeraj Chopra finished third overall in the Diamond League standings. He won the Doha and Lausanne editions. At Zurich he finished second behind Jakub Vadlejch.

Competitors in Men’s Javelin Throw Final
Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch finished in the top spot at the Diamond League standings this year. He reached the final after winning back to back titles in Monaco and Zurich Diamond. He will be a strong contender for the title.
Former World Champion Andersen Peters will also be in action. The Grenadian has not been at his best this season. At the World Championship final this year he failed to even reach the final. However the Grenadian cannot be ruled out of contention as he is eager to make a comeback.
Surprisingly, Julien Weber, who finished second in the Diamond League standings this year, is not named in the entry list for the final. Findland’s Oliver Helander, Moldova’s Andrian Mardare and USA’s Curtis Thompson are the other three athletes to compete in the final.
