The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 opening match between India and Sri Lanka saw a new attendance record being set on Tuesday. The game that took place at the Barsapara stadium saw maximum attendance for a new opening day attendance record at any Women’s CWC. Harmanpreet Kaur and co. kick-started their campaign in style, defeating SLW by 59 runs in what was a rain-hit tie.

The India Women vs Sri Lanka Women saw 22,843 fans in attendance at the ACA Stadium, a record for the most attended group stage fixture at any Women’s World Cup. The previous record of 15,935 was set during the India-Pakistan ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Group A clash in 2024. The 13th edition of the Women’s World Cup, which commenced from September 30 onwards, will run until November 2.
What happened in INDW vs SLW?
Batting first, India women managed to amass 269/8 in 47 overs. While Smriti Mandhana (8) flopped, Pratika Rawal (37) and Harleen Deol (48) provided the perfect start for India. Deepti Sharma (53) and Amankot Kaur (57) powered India to a decent total in the rain-hit tie.
In response, Sri Lanka Women were bundled out for just 211 runs. Deepti Sharma was the star of the show for India with the ball, finishing with figures of 3/54 from her 10 overs. Sneh Rana and Sree Charani bagged two wickets each while Kranti Gaud, Amanjot Kaur, and Pratika Rawal bagged one wicket each.
Deepti Sharma was named the Player of the Match for her all-round brilliance.
“I enjoy my batting. When the wicket is like this then I focus on my stock ball and try to hit the stumps. First match sets the tone and we have a lot of positives. We want to play like this and keep winning,” Deepti said after the match.
