Francis Ngannou Reveals Why He Won’t Fight In PFL This Year

In an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Ngannou explained his reasons for not fighting in 2022. “First of all it’s my life, I will lead it in my way. If you’re happy, good, if you’re not then I’m sorry,” Ngannou said. “Secondly, as I said this deal is exclusively MMA and also PFL needs time to find an opponent for me to build up the opening because I’m not going to fight next month.” (from 30:30)

Ngannou also said that the potential boxing matches he has been discussing are still in play and take time to put together. “Also the boxing component that is still in consideration. We don’t have an announcement yet but as I said it takes a lot of time . We can have a big fight or not. And I’m hoping to have a boxing match before fighting in the PFL,” Ngannou stated.  

Earlier, Ngannou had problems with his MMA contract as he wanted to box. But nos with his new PFL contract granting him those wishes and more, seems content to take his time before returning to action. In conclusion, Ngannou’s decision to delay his MMA debut in the PFL and focus on his boxing career is a bold move, but one that he’s entitled to make. 

His interest in boxing also highlights the growing trend of MMA fighters exploring opportunities in the boxing world. Fans will undoubtedly be eagerly anticipating Ngannou’s next move and eagerly awaiting his return to the MMA ring.
