The Kiwi tailender was struck on his head by a fiery bouncer from Jofra Archer at the fag end of the NZ’s 1st innings, and then returned to bowl 3 overs. However, he has now been ruled out of the rest of the game and his replacement has been named by New Zealand Cricket.

The incident occurred in the second delivery of the 114th over of New Zealand‘s 1st innings as Tickner was facing Archer. A fiery bouncer from the England pacer floored the tailender, following which a concussion test was conducted in the middle by the NZ medical staff. Three deliveries later, the Kiwis were bundled out for 438 runs while Tickner stayed unbeaten on 4.

Remarkably, Tickner returned to the field in the next innings, and managed to bowl 3 overs before he was pulled out of the attack. He conceded 21 runs in his short spell. Following the end of play on Day 2, New Zealand Cricket issued a statement informing that Tickner has been ruled out of the remainder of the ENG vs NZ 3rd Test due to a concussion and that Zak Foules has been named as his replacement in the playing XI.
