Amongst those showing support for Chimaev’s callout were Nina Drama and Tam Khan, who both commented on the post. Drama, who is a strawweight fighter in the UFC, wrote “team Borz” referencing Chimaev’s nickname, while Khan posted fire emojis indicating his excitement for the potential matchup. And one fan said “Answer The Phone”
Chimaev’s callout comes after Usman’s recent back-to-back losses against Leon Edwards, which have left the welterweight division open for new contenders to emerge. Chimaev, with a perfect 12-0 record in the UFC.
While there has been talk of Chimaev moving up to middleweight, a potential showdown with Usman might lure him to make the 170-pound weight cut one more time. Usman, who has been dominating the welterweight division since capturing the title in 2019, has yet to respond to Chimaev’s callout.
If the matchup were to come to fruition, it would be a clash of two dominant wrestlers with knockout power, making for an exciting fight for fans. However, with Usman’s recent losses and Chimaev’s relatively short UFC career, it remains to be seen if the UFC will book the fight.
