Just four days before her first round contest, the Briton appeared to be in discomfort during the practice session at the Flushing Meadows and she was seen in tears as she sought medical attention. Emma Raducanu US Open – Emma Raducanu HAND Injury: Emma Raducanu began the practice session with Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova on Friday. After about 40 minutes, the 19-year old halted the session as she was seen gesturing towards her right wrist and was soon in tears. She was comforted by new coach Dmitry Tursunov and physio and strength-and-conditioning coach Will Herbert. Few minutes later she ran off the court to the locker room and took a 15-minute medical treatment. She returned back to the court with a taping on her right wrist.
Raducanu’s 2022 season has been marred with numerous injury setbacks. At the start of the year, she suffered blisters on her hand during the Australian Open and bowed out from the tournament in the second round. In February, she had to withdraw from her first-round contest at Mexican Open after suffering from a hip injury. She then suffered a back injury during her first-round contest against Bianca Andreescu at the Italian Open and withdrew from the match after trailing 2-6, 1-2. She also suffered a side strain in the her first-round contest at Nottingham Open that made her withdraw mid-way from the tournament.
On Friday after the medical treatment, Raducanu looked fine as she completed her two-hour training by hitting and serving. Though it was not believed to be a serious issue, this raises doubts on whether the 11th seed would be 100% fit when she faces World N.37 Alize Cornet in the first round on Tuesday.
