- Marin reached his first final this year at the Tel Aviv Open but lost to top seed Novak Djokovic in straight sets. He enters Astana Open on the ninth seed and looks to continue his form.
- Cilic started the year by reaching back-to-back semifinals at both the Adelaide International tournaments. He then faced fourth round defeat at Australian Open.
- He reached the quarterfinals at Qatar Open and lost to Karen Khachanov in three sets.
- He then suffered first round exits at Dubai Tennis Championships and Indian Wells Masters. he faced second round defeat at Miami Open.
- His best performance on clay courts was at the Italian Open, where he managed to reach the third round and lost to Cristian Garin in a three-setter.
- At the French Open, he showed good form and defeated World No.1 Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round. He went all the way to the semifinal, where he lost to Casper Ruud.

- At the year-end Grand Slam, he bowed out from the first round after losing to Hubert Hurkacz.
- He also bowed out from the first round at the Moselle Open. Ahead of the Astana Open, he lost in the second round at Sofia Open.
