Little known sprinter Tejas Shirse smashed the long-standing men’s 110m hurdles national record, enroute winning a gold medal at the Motonet GP series, with a time of 13.41s on Wednesday. Shirse surpassed the previous national record held by Siddharth Thingalaya at 13.48s, set in 2017. Meanwhile, Shirse also bettered his PB from 13.56s, which he created on May 9 at Vught.
This might not be a flash-in-the-pan success for him, and he has already shown signs of brilliance on the national circuit, by winning the Federation Cup, National Inter-State Championships and National Open in 2023. This year though, he has been focusing on training abroad. Also, this performance would take him over his current 61st spot in the Road to Paris list.

Tejas Shirse & Paris 2024 Qualification
Despite this solid performance, Paris 2024 qualification seems to be a fair distance away from him. The automatic qualification time is 13.27s. Only 40 athletes will participate at the Olympics, and 20 of them will go through their rankings.
On the other hand, Jyothi Yarraji was exceptional on the day too as she equalled her national record of 12.78s in women’s 100m hurdles. She just missed out on the Paris 2024 qualification narrowly, that stands at 12.77s. But her superior ranking of 28 means that she will board the Paris bus for sure.
