Liverpool set up an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City following a narrow win over Nottingham Forest in a game filled with late controversy. Roberto Firmino missed the biggest chance of the first half at the City Ground when he was played in on goal but opted to chip Ethan Horvath, who stood tall to make the save.
Philip Zickernagel missed a huge chance in the closing stages to give Forest the lead when he skewed across goal and in typical fashion in such ties, Liverpool quickly pounced for the opener. Moments later, Diogo Jota put his side in front when he was picked out by Kostas Tsimikas at the far post to score and after a VAR check for offside, the goal was given.
VAR then aided the Reds in the final minutes when it checked a potential foul from Alisson in the area before ultimately deciding to award a goal kick, much to Forest’s fury as they exit, while Liverpool advance to face Manchester City in a Wembley showdown.
