ISl 2021-22: FC Goa broke their four game winless jinx by defeating Chennaiyin FC 1-0 in their Indian Super League clash at the Athletic Stadium on Saturday night. Bandovic made some changes to the team as he brought on new signing Nerijus Valskis and paired him up with Mirlan Murzaev upfront but still, they failed to convert their chances. Murzaev also had his chance but was denied by Goa custodian Naveen Kumar. Overall Chennaiyin FC had only two shots on target whereas Goa had nine.

Therefore Chennaiyin FC head coach Bozidar Bandovic was visibly frustrated while he addressed the media after the heartbreaking defeat.
The Chennaiyin FC head coach felt that the draw would have been a fair result for both the teams as it was a very close game and both teams gave their all. He felt that both teams had fewer chances and a draw was a more favourable result according to the Montenegrin.
“Yes, because it was a tight game without many chances. So, of course, they had more than us. They moved the ball better, what they always do. But without many chances, the game should have ended in a draw. Of course, we lost many balls, we didn’t do well even in attacking,” Bandovic replied when asked whether a draw would have been ideal.

There were many players one can blame for conceding the goal late in the game. Firstly the players around Ortiz should have closed him down a lot earlier and also Debjit Majumder’s position under the bar was also questionable. There were blames on Sajid Dhot as well. But Bandovic felt that it was a collective team mistake rather than blaming it out on a particular player. “I always said it’s a team mistake. We should avoid such goals,” Bandovic answered.
The Montenegrin head coach started with Valskis and Murzaev upfront as Lallianzuala Chhangte was on the bench. When questioned whether it was a strategy to keep Chhangte on the bench, he added how he wanted to bring some players in late in the game and it almost worked for him.
“Of course, we started the game like this. We didn’t have problems, but we wanted to change something after he come inside with Lukasz Gikiewicz, the team was more aggressive. We wanted to make a change for the better, that moment we showed that we’re better even in attacking at that moment. So the goal was a little mistake that we could have avoided. If we didn’t concede the goal, we are the ones that played more aggressively, especially with the changes we made,” Bandovic explained before signing off.
