Rajasthan Royals (RR)-
- The 2008 champions are the only team from the 2021 campaign to make progress.
- With 18 points in the league campaign, they have gained five positions to finish second form their seventh position finish in 2021.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)-
- RCB finished third in IPL 2021, and had to sweat to make the playoffs in 2022
- Although they have dropped one place, there is no real difference in the outcome of their fortunes as they will play the Eliminator as they did last season, albeit this time as an away team.
Delhi Capitals (DC)-
- The Delhi Capitals finished top of the IPL 2021 standings, but their journey has ended in the league phase this time as they finished fifth.
- Despite a good overall performance with seven wins, they have dropped four positions from their previous season.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)-
- Kolkata Knight Riders finished runners-up in the IPL 2021 season while they were fourth in the league phase.
- This season after a fresh start they have failed to match the heights of last season and dropped three positions to finish seventh.

Punjab Kings (PBKS)-
- Punjab Kings haven’t made any progress from their previous season.
- They blew hot and cold to finish 6th after winning the last league game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
- While they got Shikhar Dhawan, a consistent performer, KL Rahul’s absence was felt at the top.
- Mayank Agarwal with terrible form failed to contribute.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)-
- Sunrisers finished bottom of the table in IPL 2021.
- In a 10-team IPL 2022, they finished at 8th place again.
- New skipper Kane Williamson’s personal form was terrible and failed to make any mark.
- For their report card though, they haven’t made any progress and are eighth in the table, as they were last season.
- Sunrisers Hyderabad began the season losing the first two games. While they won the next five, they lost the next six matches to bow out of Playoff contention.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK)-
- As the defending champions Chennai Super Kings were expected to stay in contention.
- But the captaincy transition did not go well as Ravindra Jadeja failed to inspire. MS Dhoni took the charge again.
- But injuries to key players including Deepak Chahar meant CSK ended the campaign at 9th spot with just four wins from 14 matches.
Mumbai Indians (MI)-
- The worst season in the history of the record five-time champions, MI have finished rock bottom of the IPL season for the very first time.
- MI have gone from finishing fifth to tenth in the IPL standings.
- A squad that lacked balance from the auction was made worse with poor form of Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard.
- Mumbai lacked a quality pacer to partner Jasprit Bumrah.
- But it was their batting that let them down with Ishan Kishan blowing hot and cold.
