Iyer’s primary competition for No 5 is Hanuma Vihari. But the Andhra batter also failed to impress. In the first innings of the warm-up, he scored a shaky 23-ball 3 while he is unbeaten on 9 in the second innings.
However, KS Bharat has emerged as a better option as he commanded the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna and opposition bowlers with ease. He scored an unbeaten 70 in the first innings and is not out for 31 in the second.
Although he came in as a backup wicketkeeper, his performances are now putting pressure on Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma.

- India’s middle-order remains a huge concern with Virat Kohli out of form and Cheteshwar Pujara making a comeback.
- At No 5, Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari are competing for a place.
- But KS Bharat has thrown in the hat into the competition.
- With 70 not out and 31 not out, he has proven that he can play both new and old Dukes ball well.
- As both Vihari and Iyer failed to impress, Rohit Sharma gave Bharat extra time in batting.
- In the 2nd innings, Rohit sent in Bharat to open with Shubman instead of opening himself.
- As Bharat already played 111 balls in the first innings, if he was not in plans, he would not have been sent to bat again.

India Tour of England: Light training for Ashwin – However, R Ashwin is yet to begin full-fledged training in England. The off-spinner, who played no part in four Tests in England last summer, joined the squad late as he was recovering from Covid-19.
He is also not part of the squad for the warm-up match. With Ravindra Jadeja bagging three wickets in the first innings, it’s still not confirmed whether Ashwin will be included in the Playing XI for the 5th Test, starting July 1.
