IND vs BAN: Shakib Al Hasan has passed the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL 2023) auction audition with flying colours. The experienced all-rounder claimed 5/36 on Sunday at Shere Bangla National Stadium which is his best figure against India in ODIs. Shakib, who is the superstar of Bangladesh Cricket, was an integral part of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, he was let go before the mega auction and did not find any suitor last season. But now with his heroics in Mirpur against Men in Blue, IPL scouts will be eager to buy the services of the former Bangladeshi captain for their teams. At the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Bangladesh’s opening ODI against India, Shakib Al Hasan racked up a five-wicket haul.
The former captain of Bangladesh struck like thunder to take two wickets in one over on two occasions. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were both out in his opening over. Washington Sundar was then eliminated, giving him his third wicket. Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar were the final two wickets that Shakib took in his seventh over to give him a total of five.
Barring Mustafizur Rahman last season, no Bangladesh cricketers played in the IPL. Lucknow Super Giants tried to sign Taskin Ahmed as a Mark Wood replacement. However, with BCB not allowing NOC, it did not materialise.
While NOC could still be a problem, the three-match ODI and two-match Test series will help BCB bridge the gap. Hence, if picked up, all Bangladeshi players will eventually play in IPL.
Now with this match-defining performance with the ball, it is a sure thing that Shakib will be in great demand in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2023 Auction.
