India have played eight global events since its win in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 and have endured only heartbreaks. The WTC Final is the ninth ICC event for India and the first in 2023. Kapil Dev became the first Indian skipper to win ICC event in 1983. After 28 years, Dhoni & Co won ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. Before that, Dhoni also won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. The CSK skipper completed hattrick of ICC trophies by winning the Champions Trophy in 2013. If Rohit Sharma wins the WTC Trophy on July 11 against Australia, he will become just the third India skipper to win a global event.

India also managed to reach the finals of WTC Final in 2021-22, before suffering a eight-wicket loss to New Zealand.

Rohit Sharma Captaincy Record: How has Rohit fared in ICC events so far?

This will be the second time India will play ICC event under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. In the T20 World Cup 2022, India managed to reach semi-final, before suffering a thrashing 10-wicket loss against England. Rohit will get a chance to avenge the loss of the T20 World Cup in the WTC Final against Australia. So far, Rohit has led India in six Test matches, winning four Test matches, drawing one, and losing one Test.

The WTC Final will be played at the Oval from June 7 to 11. India finished second on the WTC Points table for the 2021-23 cycle.
