- Daniil Medvedev battled past ankle injury and clinched victory against Alexander Zverev in the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters to enter the semifinal.
- It remains to be seen how the injury flares up before his upcoming quarterfinal contest. However, he is set to face unseeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina for a spot in the semifinal.
- Medvedev started the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Brandon Nakashia in the second round.
- However in his next two matches, he dropped a set and clinched victories in three sets. In the third round, he faced Ilya Ivashka before meeting Zverev in the fourth round.
- Just ahead of the Indian Wells Masters, he has won titles at ATP Rotterdam, Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships.
- Alejandro Davidovich Fokina dropped just a set in his three matches so far.
- He began the tournament with a straight set win against China’s Wu Yibing. In the third round, he dropped a set but managed to clinch a three-set win against higher-ranked opponent in Karen Khachanov.
- He met Cristian Garin in the fourth round and sailed past him by winning the match 6-3, 6-4.
- Fokina began the year with a quarterfinal exit at Adelaide International 2. He also bowed out from the quarterfinals at the Qatar Open.

Medvedev vs Fokina Head-to-Head: Both the players have played twice in the ATP Tour so far. In both the matches, Medvedev clinched victories.
