India search for glory on final Day

As things stand, India are currently on 18 Gold medals and have opportunity to add 5 more Gold medals to the tally on final day. If India win all the 5 Gold medals on the final day, they will end with 23 Gold and therefore surpass the 2006 tally. India won 22 Gold medals at the Melbourne Games and will have the opportunity to surpass the tally on the final day.

However if India fail to win any of their Gold Medal matches on the final day, they will miss out on the opportunity to better the Melbourne Games. In event if India win four Gold and a Silver medal, in that case also India miss out on on the opportunity to better the performance.

In the event of tied Gold medals, Silver medals decide the standings and India can add only one Silver medal in event where they win four Gold medals. In this case India will have less than 17 Silver medals from the 2006 event and thus missing out on the opportunity to better the tally.

Year Gold Silver Bronze Total Position
2010 38 27 36 101 2nd
2002 30 22 17 69 4th
2018 26 20 20 66 3rd
2006 22 17 11 50 4th
2022 18 15 22 55 5th

India can move up in 2022 CWG Standings too

On the flip side, India can finish 4th at the CWG 2022 in Birmingham. With 18 Gold medals won and possible five Gold medals to be won on final day, India can clinch 4th place. As things stand, India can surpass New Zealand for the fourth spot, who have 19 Gold medals to their name.

In event if both India and New Zealand end with same number of Gold medals, it will be the silver medal that will decide the standings. Currently India have 15 silver medals, and will earn as many silver medals if they fail to win their Gold Medal matches. In a rare event if both New Zealand and India finish with same Gold and Silver medals, then the overall medal tally decides the standings.

India cannot finish any higher than fourth at the CWG 2022 in Birmingham. Also India cannot finish any lower than their current fifth spot.
