Despite a solid 253-run win against England in the second Test at the Kennington Oval in London, New Zealand stay at the fourth position in the WTC points table 2025-27. As per the updated table, the Kiwis now have three wins in 5 matches, having lost one and drawn one as well. Their PCT stands at 66.67%, while table-toppers Australia stay at 87.50.
On the other hand, hosts England continue to be on the 7th — where in 12 matches they have lost seven and won only four. Their PCT is a poor 34.72. That only goes on to show, how form has deserted once a top side in this particular format.

Kiwis too good for hosts England without Stokes
It seems, NZ got an easy match without the towering presence of Ben Stokes, who was not picked for the match, for breaching a night curfew, after the 1st match. Similar was the case with their premier pacer Gus Atkinson. The match in London started with Glenn Phillips showing his skills with the red ball as well, where he slammed his maiden ton.
That propelled the score to 391, on a difficult track. Come their batting, England were just not up to the mark, and only two batters — Emilio Gay and Matthew Fisher could cross the 50-run barrier, before being bundled out for 291. Getting a lead of 100, a 121 in the third innings by Henry Nicholls meant, England needed 463 to win in the last innings.
And that was never going to happen with the kind of batting form the team was in. Stand-in skipper Joe Root did try his best and scored 77, while Harry Brook got 58, but that wasn’t just enough on the day. Matt Henry’s 6 wickets in the second innings just ruined everything for the hosts. In fact, the same bowler had returned with a fifer in the first innings as well.
