Rohit Sharma scored 137 runs in the 4 matches he played, at an average of 45, and at a strike rate of 165.

In what could be a slight good news to struggling Mumbai Indians, veteran batter Rohit Sharma could be available for the next match. As per a report in Cricbuzz, Rohit is recovering well from his hamstring injury, and could in the SRH vs MI match on April 29. It is to be noted, that the 38-year-old had picked up the injury on April 12, during a match vs RCB.

Rohit’s absence creates batting void in MI

He has already missed three games — against PBKS, GT and even CSK. Meanwhile, the MI management is only hopeful, that Rohit would play the match against SRH. “Rohit is working hard in the middle to get back to full fitness,” a source told Cricbuzz. In the matches he has been absent, Mumbai’s batting has suffered big time.

They have roped in young opener Danish Malewar in the XI, who has only scored 2 runs in as many matches. In fact, the management has opted to go with a batter, who doesn’t even have any experience in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well, which is quite baffling.

MI lag behind in race to IPL 2026 playoffs qualification

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma had a decent start to the season, where he scored 137 runs in 4 matches, and even held the Orange Cap, very briefly. His presence will also bee needed, with the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya also failing with the bat. It was only a couple of days back, that MI suffered 103-run defeat, on account of their poor batting.

After 7 matches, they have only won two games, which makes their IPL 2026 playoffs qualification, a really challenging task. Having said that, it is just not Rohit’s absence that is causing the problems — but a combination of factors. Some bad choices in the IPL 2026 auction are marring their chances, and so are some questionable selection calls being made.

Captaincy and personal form of Hardik Pandya has been worrisome for the team, and a method needs to be devised soon, so that the team can return on track.
