Shardul Thakur is on absolute fire in Mumbai’s final Ranji Trophy group stage match against Meghalaya. The all-rounder bagged a hat-trick in his 2nd over of the match to trigger a batting collapse for the visitors. Thakur’s impressive form from the previous game spilt over to the match against MEG, with the top-order bearing the brunt of his fiery attack.

Shardul opened his account by getting rid of opener Nishanta Chakraborty in the very first over. He returned in the third over to dismiss Anirudh B, Sumit Kumar and Jaskirat in three consecutive deliveries, reducing Meghalaya to 2/5. Two out of his three hat-trick victims were clean bowled while the other was caught out by Shams Mulani.

With his impressive performances so far in Ranji Trophy, Shardul is staking claim for a BCCI Central Contract that he rightfully deserves. He was snubbed from the contracts list in 2024. In 7 matches in this season, he has 17 wickets to his name (excluding the ones taken in the game against Meghalaya). Thakur was once a regular in the Indian Test side and was one of the most reliable all-rounders, especially in overseas conditions.
Mumbai won the toss and opted to field first in the contest. After being handed an upset by J&K in the previous game, Ajinkya Rahane and co. are eyeing to steamroll past a winless Meghalaya. This contest is a must-win for the side in order to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament. Mumbai are playing the contest without the services of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube.
