Delhi Capitals (DC) have now leaked the top two highest powerplay scores in IPL history, both coming in Delhi.

Some fans would’ve thought that it would be tiresome to watch an afternoon IPL game in the scorching heat in Delhi from the stands. However, the craze of the league is such that it brought thousands of fans for the Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Punjab Kings (PBKS) affair, and they would surely take pride in themselves for witnessing a run-scoring juggernaut in the national capital. After KL Rahul’s insane 152*, PBKS openers scripted history to smash one of the highest powerplay scores in IPL history.

Priyansh Arya-Prabhsiman Singh show

While chasing 265, Punjab Kings needed utter chaos in the powerplay. The perfect pair to do this was Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, who tormented DC bowlers. They didn’t win the game in the Powerplay, but they gave themselves a chance to chase something ridiculous. 265 on the board should shut the door on most sides. Instead, PBKS came out and kicked it wide open.

It started with Priyansh Arya doing what he has made a habit of this season, taking on the first ball. Six over mid-wicket, no sighters, and no nerves. From there, it just kept building. Auqib Nabi’s first over went for 15, Mukesh Kumar’s next disappeared for 21, and suddenly Punjab were 36/0 after two. Both the batters were set and they didn’t settle for 14s or 15s but lambasted runs at 19.3 in the first six overs.

Lungi Ngidi’s injury didn’t halt PBKS’ march

Then came the moment that stopped everything for a bit. Lungi Ngidi, chasing a catch, lost his footing and landed heavily on his head. It was an ugly incident that nobody wanted to happen. Players gathered, the physios rushed in, and eventually the ambulance came out on the field before he was subbed in for Vipraj Nigam. When play resumed, though, Punjab didn’t lose their flow. If anything, they went harder.

Axar Patel, who brought himself early, was taken for 20 runs by Priyansh, including two clean sixes. Auqib Nabi’s return spell went for 27, with Prabhsimran stepping out and launching him straight and over mid-wicket. By the end of five overs, PBKS were already 92/0. But then came perhaps the most entertaining over.

Prabhsimran did what only Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane had done before. He hammered six fours in an over. His fifty came off just 18 balls, and Punjab crossed 100 in 5.2 overs, which is the second-fastest team fifty in IPL history. Mukesh Kumar was the culprit as he bowled horribly to Prabhsimran to cap off the powerplay.
