Mr Consistent Sai Sudharsan joins Chris Gayle & Kane Williamson in Elite League after Royals mauling

Sai Sudharsan has the second most runs after 30 IPL innings going past Chris Gayle, Kane Williamson after heroics in GT vs RR clash

Sai Sudharsan’s dream run in the IPL continued on Wednesday after the Gujarat Titans star smashed yet another half-century. The 23-year-old has been ever-present for his franchise, consistently holding the innings together. The left-hander now has the most runs for an Indian after 30 IPL innings.

Most runs in first 30 innings

A reliable hand for GT, Sai Sudharsan joined IPL legends in an elite list, becoming a trailblazer among Indian players to play in the tournament.

Sudharsan has the second-most runs in the IPL after 30 innings. The 23-year-old has amassed 1307 in his career so far, at an average of 48.41. Only Shaun Marsh has scored more runs in his first 30 IPL innings. Among Indians, Sudharsan is the best.

Marsh was amongst the most consistent players in the first few IPL years, winning the Orange Cap in 2008 for Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings).

Sai has left RCB legend Chris Gayle trailing in the wake of his brilliance in the IPL so far. The Universe Boss, who started his career at Kolkata Knight Riders, scored 1141 runs in his first 30 innings. Kane Williamson, the former GT and SRH superstar, meanwhile, managed 1096, 14 more than CSK legend Matthew Hayden.

Gujarat Titans plucked Sai Sudharsan in the auction for Rs 30 lakh ahead of the 2022 season and they have since reaped rewards. While he played just 5 games in GT’s title-winning campaign, the left-hander showed enough promise to become a fixture in the Titans’ lineup. The 23-year-old has 10 50+ scores in just 30 innings, averaging a 50+ score in every 3rd innings he bats. He smashed 96 in the IPL 2023 final against CSK, showcasing his big-game potential. Sudharsan’s performances have been a bedrock to Titans’ success, with the left-hander playing the anchor role to perfection.

IN IPL 2024, while Gujarat struggled, Sudharsan was still amongst the runs. The 23-year-old smashed 527 runs in 14 innings, at an average of close to 48. He struck at 141, finishing 6th in the Orange Cap race.

He has continued his dream run this year, stroking three-fifties in five innings. He has 273 runs in 5 innings, while his trike rate is also better this year. Sudharsan is striking at 151 this year, and has hit 12 sixes in just 5 games. For comparison, he hit only 16 in the entire last season. In his last 10 innings, Sai Sudharsan has 5 50s and a century.
