India vs England: Mark Wood fires ‘short ball’ warning to Rohit Sharma ahead of 1st Test
England pacer Mark Wood reckons that slow pitches in India could give pacers a chance with short balls in India vs England Test matches.

England pacer Mark Wood on Tuesday fired warning to Indian skipper Rohit Sharma ahead of IND vs ENG 1st Test, starting on January 25 in Hyderabad. Wood stated that he won’t hesitate to employ short-pitched deliveries against the Indian opener, despite being aware of Sharma’s skills in handling such deliveries.

Wood reasoned that the nature of pitches, even if slow, could help the bowlers pick with the short deliveries.

“Yeah, the conditions will be assessed once I am out there, and bumps (bouncers) are rarely bought out here. But the pitch sometimes can be two-paced and, if it is slow, it can help (bowlers) because the batters will be through with the shot,” Wood said in press conference.

“Someone like Rohit, I know how good he is on the short ball. That doesn’t necessarily mean that I wouldn’t bowl a bouncer. It just means that I’ll have to be really accurate with it and bowl at the right time”, the English pacer further added.

The Telegraph has reported that England might go with Mark Wood as lone seamer for the opening Test. With the pitch likely to be spin-friendly, the visitors are planning to pick three spinners.
