Rain set to hamper last-mile prep for all teams ahead of World Cup opener

Rain set to hamper last-mile prep for all teams ahead of World Cup opener

After rain washing out three out of five warm-up games, bad weather set to ruin the remaining five games as well leading up to ICC World Cup.

Rohit Sharma may not be in favour of warm-up matches before World Cup but all teams that want to have that last-minute preparation are set to face disruption leading up to World Cup opener on Oct 5. There is a forecast of rain in Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and even Hyderabad over the next few days during World Cup warm-up matches.

So far, out of five World Cup Warm-up matches, three have been washed out. Only the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka warm-up game has been played in Guwahati without any rain disruption. In the New Zealand vs Pakistan game, rain interrupted the match.

And in the next five warm-up games, things don’t look good either.

Guwahati Weather Forecast

ENG vs BAN Weather (Oct 2): On Monday, England take on Bangladesh in the warm-up clash in Guwahati. With no practice so far, England are in a tough spot following a long journey. As per the Indian MET department, the Guwahati weather forecast is gloomy. There will be two spells of rain on Monday. And to make things worse, there is a 40% chance of rain in the afternoon and evening in Guwahati.

AFG vs SL Weather (Oct 3): But things don’t look good for the Guwahati crowd on Tuesday. With a thunderstorm predicted on Oct 3 during the Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka match, they can once again return home disappointed.

Thiruvananthapuram Weather Forecast

NZ vs SA Weather (Oct 2): In Thiruvananthapuram, none of the matches have been completed yet due to rain. And Thiruvananthapuram weather continues to disappoint fans. Monday will start with a brief spell of rain with a cloudy sky greeting both teams. And if it rains heavily and stays overcast the whole day, it is likely that the outfield will stay wet. South Africa haven’t played World Cup Warm-up match so far due to rain.

With India Cricket Team also in Thiruvananthapuram, their practice will also be hampered.

IND vs NED Weather (Oct 3): Similarly, Thiruvananthapuram weather could play spoilsport on Tuesday as well. Even though the forecast improves for India vs Netherlands warm-up, there is still over a 30% chance of rain in the World Cup Warm-up match. If not a washout, there could be rain interruptions throughout the game.

Rohit Sharma may not be very keen to play a warm-up match as he termed the games “formality” but it could offer valuable practice sessions for all.
