OTD in 2023: India clinch maiden U-19 women’s T20 World Cup title
India's U-19 women's cricket team made history last year by winning the maiden U-19 T20 World Cup final against England.

India clinched their maiden title in women’s cricket by securing a commanding victory in the first Under-19 Women’s World Cup held in Potchefstroom in 2023.

India’s women’s cricket team dominantly won the match against England by seven wickets and 36 balls to spare.

England struggled to put up a competitive total, managing only 68 runs in their first innings. The innings unfolded at a pace reminiscent of Test cricket, with a run rate of 3.9 runs per over. India’s bowlers exhibited exceptional skill and precision, restricting the English batters and setting the stage for their momentous victory.

In response, India approached the target with determination and efficiency, reaching the modest total in just 14 overs. The opening pair of Soumya Tiwari and G Trisha played pivotal roles in the chase, contributing significantly with scores of 24 each. Their partnership showcased a combination of skillful shot-making and strategic gameplay, ensuring India’s swift and decisive victory.

Captain Shefali Ghosh led the junior team to the victory. Many players from this side went on to play for the senior women’s team.
